Inspired by the WabiSabi Thrift Store in Moab and the Catholic Thrift store in Cedar City, Envision Escalante opened the Skyhoopi Thrift Store with a month-and-a-half lead time. A building was leased, a manager hired, four employees were obtained through the Easter Seals and lots of donations were received. The store opened on July 1 with a grand opening on July 26. Skyhoopi not only provides five jobs, but it is also one of the few stores in town. More importantly, proceeds from the store will benefit community projects. If you can’t pronounce Escalante, just call us Skyhoopi!!
Skyhoopi would like to extend a special thank all those who helped with the store: Wells Fargo, Desert Doc, Escalante Outfitters, Desert Wolf Gallery and Gifts, Cottom 66, The Vagabond, Escalante Rock Shop, Sernidad Gallery, Gallery Escalante, Fire Rock Farm, Catholic Social Services Thrift Shop, Escalante Implement, Garfield Memorial Healthcare Foundation, Bob & Sherie Rechsteiner, The Fly Shop at Escalante Outfitters, Chris and Justine Reinke, Kim Lyman, Elaine Lott, Arnold & Deon Alvey, Karin Smith-Simmons and all of the generous donators.
